Nigel David Short (born 1 June 1965 in Leigh) is a British chess player who holds the title of International Grandmaster.
In 1993 he played against Garry Kasparov in the PCA (Professional Chess Association) world chess championship final, in which he lost 12.5-7.5. To reach the final, he had to beat former world champion Anatoly Karpov and Jan Timman.
In 2008 he ran for president of FIDE but was not elected.
